Travis Salley Allegedly Engaged in Outside Business Activity
Travis Salley (CRD# 6523971), an investment adviser registered with Zero Day Capital Enterprises, engaged in an unapproved outside business activity, according to allegations made by a former member firm. Why Did Empirikal Partners Fire Travis Salley?
On July 11, 2024, Empirikal Partners fired Mr. Salley. According to a disclosure on his BrokerCheck profile, the firm terminated his registration following allegations that he engaged in an unapproved outside business activity. The disclosure provides no additional information about the activity in question.
Understanding FINRA’s Outside Business Activities Rule
FINRA rules prohibit brokers like Mr. Salley from undertaking outside business activities without providing prior written notice to their firm. Perhaps the most important rule governing outside business activities is FINRA Rule 3270. This rule makes clear that registered persons may not engage in business activities outside the scope of their relationship with their member firm, “unless [they have] provided prior written notice to the member, in such form as specified by the member.”

Travis Salley began his career as a broker in 2015, when he registered with Edward Jones’ branch office in Henderson, Nevada. The following year, he registered with Wells Fargo’s office in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he remained until 2020. After leaving Wells Fargo, he joined Empirikal Partners’ office in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He remained at the firm until his firing earlier this year. In May 2024 he registered with Zero Day Capital Management’s office in West Point, New York, where he remains today. With eight years of experience as an investment adviser, he has completed three industry exams, including the Series 66.
