Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) records accessed on October 21, 2020 indicate that California-based Crown Capital Securities representative Lanny Howarter has received numerous resolved or pending customer disputes. MDF Law is interested in speaking with investors who have complaints regarding Mr. Howarter (CRD# 813591).
According to his BrokerCheck report[1], he has received three settled customer complaints and four pending customer complaints.
In 2021 a customer alleged that Lanny Howarter, while employed at Crown Capital Securities, made unsuitable recommendations, misrepresented material facts, and failed to conduct reasonable due diligence in connection to a non-traded real estate investment trust. The customer is seeking $295,000 in damages in the pending complaint.
In April 2021 a customer alleged that Lanny Howarter, while employed at Crown Capital Securities, made misrepresentations of material facts, recommended unsuitable investments, and failed to perform adequate due diligence in connection to alternative investments. The customer is seeking $1,120,000 in damages in the pending complaint.
In 2021 a customer alleged that while associated with Crown Capital Securities, he performed inadequate due diligence, misrepresented material facts, and recommended unsuitable alternative investments. The customer is seeking $300,000 in damages in the pending complaint.
In 2020 a customer alleged that while associated with Crown Capital Securities, he recommended unsuitable investments, acted negligently, omitted material facts regarding the illiquid nature of the products, and breached his fiduciary duty in connection to investments in non-traded real estate investment trusts[2] and non-traded business development companies. The customer is seeking $624,616 in damages in the pending complaint.
In 2017 a customer alleged that while registered with Crown Capital, he breached his fiduciary duty, committed fraud, acted negligently, failed in his supervisory duties, and recommended unsuitable alternative investments. The complaint settled in 2018 for $122,000.
In 2010 a customer alleged that while associated with Equity Services, he made untrue statements, committed fraud, misrepresented material facts, and breached his fiduciary duty with respect to a limited partnership investment. The complaint settled for $250,000.
In 2004 a customer alleged that while registered with Equity Services, he misrepresented and recommended an unsuitable variable annuity. The complaint settled for $95,000.
Lanny Howarter has spent 36 years in the securities industry and has been registered with Crown Capital Securities in San Diego, California since 2009. Previous registrations include Signator Investors in San Diego, California (2006-2009); ESI Financial Advisors in San Diego, California (2001-2006); Equity Services in San Diego, California (1992-2006); the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company (1975-1983); and Lincoln Financial Advisors Corporation (1975-1983). He has passed seven securities industry examinations: Series 66 (Uniform Combined State Law Examination), received on March 17, 2001; Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination), received on December 7, 1992; SIE (Securities Industry Essentials Examination), received on October 1, 2018; Series 7 (General Securities Representative Examination), received on December 16, 2000; Series 22 (Direct Participation Programs Representative Examination), received on December 8, 1994; Series 6 (Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination), received on December 7, 1992; and Series 1 (Registered Representative Examination), received on October 5, 1975.
