Bron Thompson (CRD# 4350479[1]), a broker registered with Capital Investment Group, recommended unsuitable GWG L Bond[2] investments, according to investor disputes. Between 2023 and 2024, five parties of investors lodged disputes involving Mr. Thompson. These claims include allegations that he breached his fiduciary duty, violated the SEC’s Regulation Best Interest, and committed fraud. They also include allegations of misrepresentation, negligence, and unsuitable recommendations. According to his BrokerCheck profile, several disputes stem from investments in L Bonds issued by GWG Holdings, which since filed for bankruptcy. The disputes, which are still pending, seek cumulative damages of at least $1.1 million.
The above-described investor disputes are not the only ones in Mr. Thompson’s record. Between 2017 and 2022, two other parties of investors filed disputes involving him. Both alleged that he misrepresented investments, while one also alleged that he breached his fiduciary duty and employed deceptive trade practices. One dispute also stemmed from an investment in GWG Holdings, according to a disclosure on his BrokerCheck record. His member firm settled the disputes for more than $100,000 in total.
The website for Capital Investment Group, Mr. Thompson’s member firm, features an “Our Story”[3] page outlining the company’s “Hometown Values.” “We maintain only the highest degree of service, support, and courtesy to our customers and remain committed to our corporate goal – to not be the biggest, just the best,” the page reads. “Capital Investment Companies remains rooted in our southern heritage and the belief that integrity, honesty, and fairness are the means to retaining customer loyalty and achieving corporate success.”
Also known as Eugene Thompson, Bron Thompson began his career as a broker in 2001. That year, he registered with Wells Fargo Advisors’ office in Wilmington, North Carolina. He remained at Wells Fargo until 2014, when he departed for Capital Investment Group’s branch office in Dunn, North Carolina. With 23 years of experience as a broker, he has completed four industry exams, including the Series 7 and the Series 63.
