On September 9, 2024, FINRA announced a disciplinary proceeding against Ms. Godfrey. The sanction found that she “refused to provide on-the-record testimony requested by FINRA” as part of an investigation. As a disclosure on her BrokerCheck record notes, the investigation concerned “misstatements she made to a customer of her member firm using an unapproved communication platform.”
FINRA also found that she misrepresented to a client that preferred securities were insured investments. While Ms. Godfrey neither admitted to nor denied the allegations, she consented to the entry of FINRA’s findings. She also consented to a permanent bar from registering with any FINRA member firm in all capacities.
Between 2021 and 2022, five parties of investors filed disputes involving Ms. Godfrey. These disputes included allegations of false assurances that investments were insured and that she recommended high-risk securities. Her former member firm settled the disputes for more than $160,000 in total.
Ms. Godfrey’s BrokerCheck profile also discloses two investor disputes filed in 2014 and 2018. One alleged that she failed to follow a client’s instructions, while another alleged that she misrepresented corporate bond products. Her former member firms denied both claims.
Ashlee Godfrey launched her career as a broker in 2011, when she registered with Edward Jones’ office in Dalton, Georgia. She stayed at the firm until 2014, when she departed for Wells Fargo Clearing Services. In 2021 she registered with Benjamin F. Edwards & Company’s Dalton, Georgia office, where she remained until 2023. With 12 years of experience as a broker, she has completed eight industry exams, including the Series 7 and the Series 66.
